Context: Category is not just a label — it shapes who compares you to whom, what price feels reasonable, and what the first sentence of a press mention sounds like. The right category should be owned, not borrowed.

The "engine" qualifier signals infrastructure-level thinking — builders who want a foundation, not a black box. Option C's language ("intelligence", "knows you") can be layered into copy and brand voice without becoming the primary category label.

Strength
Immediately resonant with the dev/homelab audience. Privacy is a real, growing concern. Clear "unlike" contrast with dominant market leaders.
Limitation
Phase 1 still uses Anthropic cloud LLM by default — claim is architecturally true but the full local experience is Phase 2. Don't over-promise on local inference today.
Risk
Privacy framing attracts a narrower audience. Risk of being perceived as "just another privacy tool" rather than a capable AI agent. May lose mainstream-aspirational appeal.

Unlike any cloud AI assistant, Lyra doesn't forget you when you log out, doesn't reset when the company upgrades its model, and doesn't share what you tell it with anyone. It's the AI that's actually yours.
Strength
Most emotionally resonant. "Starts from zero" is a universally felt pain with every AI product. This angle could cross beyond the developer audience into the aspirational power user segment.
Limitation
Requires the memory system to be genuinely impressive. The promise of "remembers everything" sets a high bar. Phase 1 memory is good but not magic — validate before leading with this.
Risk
The relationship framing may conflict with "it runs on your server" — people don't think of servers as warm and personal. Requires strong UX storytelling to bridge the gap.
Recommended primary: A — with C as the brand voice, B in technical docs

Use Angle A as the headline positioning (it matches the target audience and can be claimed truthfully today). Let Angle C inform the brand voice, tagline copy, and landing page narrative — it's the feeling Lyra should create. Keep Angle B for GitHub README, technical blog posts, and developer documentation where specificity builds trust.

Anti-Positioning

What Lyra is not. What we refuse to compete on. Clarity about limits is a form of positioning.
Not a chatbot
Lyra is not a thin wrapper around an LLM API with a nice interface. It is a persistent, multi-agent engine with memory, routing, and skills. The conversation interface is one output modality — not the product.
Not a framework to sell
Lyra is not LangChain. There are no abstractions designed for general-purpose use. The extension model serves one operator (you) on hardware you own. It is a personal tool that happens to be well-engineered — not a platform built to be sold to others.
Not a task manager or calendar
Lyra does not manage your to-do list, your calendar, or your reminders. It is an AI intelligence layer, not a productivity suite. Those integrations may emerge as skills — they are not the core value proposition.
Not autonomous without supervision
Lyra does not act without you. It has a trust model, a permission system, and a human-in-the-loop design. "Agentic" means capable of multi-step reasoning — not capable of running your life. Autonomy is bounded and opt-in.
Not multi-tenant SaaS
Lyra is built for one operator. The architecture does not support production multi-tenancy, shared user databases, or high-concurrency scaling. If you're building a product for others, use a different foundation.
Not competing on model benchmarks
Lyra does not claim its LLM output is smarter than OpenAI's. The value is the architecture around the model — memory, routing, persistence, privacy — not the raw inference quality. The model is a swappable component.
Not a visual no-code tool
Lyra is configured in TOML and Python. There is no drag-and-drop UI, no visual flow builder, no node canvas. The audience is people who are comfortable in a terminal. That constraint is a feature — it keeps the surface auditable and the core minimal.
Not a subscription product
Lyra does not charge a monthly fee. It does not have a freemium tier with paywalled memory. The cost is your hardware and (optionally) your LLM API key. This is a structural choice that defines the business model and the relationship with users.
Why anti-positioning matters

Clear limits prevent scope creep, set honest expectations, and sharpen the identity. A product that claims to be everything is understood as nothing. Lyra's constraints — personal-first, terminal-native, single-operator, not autonomous — are not weaknesses. They are the conditions that make the privacy claim, the auditability claim, and the ownership claim credible. Remove any of these constraints and the core positioning collapses.

Palette recommendation: keep current, strengthen amber usage

The teal/amber system is already deeply embedded in the logo, animation, and brand narrative. The metaphor coherence (teal = channel input, amber = resolved intelligence) is a genuine design strength that would be lost with a palette change. The recommendation is not to replace it, but to give amber more weight in hero copy and UI accents — it is currently used primarily in the logo, but its warmth should permeate the product language. Alt A is worth revisiting if Lyra ever addresses a consumer audience (Angle C positioning). Alt B fits a developer tooling framing but sacrifices the warmth that makes Lyra feel personal.
